Shift duration formula
(end time − start time) − break minutes
(end time − start time) − break minutes
Overnight shifts are treated as ending on the following day whenever the end time is earlier than the start time.
How it works
Each row converts the start and end times into minutes since midnight. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator assumes the shift crossed midnight and adds 24 hours before subtracting the unpaid break.
Total paid time is shown in decimal hours for payroll-style entry and in hours plus minutes for easier human reading. Break totals are shown separately so you can confirm what was removed.
